Alan Smith says there is an "air of apathy" around Arsenal and questions need to be answered at the end of the season after their faint title hopes faded with a 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace on Sunday.
Alexis Sanchez gave the Gunners the lead late in the first half at the Emirates but Yannick Bolasie equalised in the 81st minute.
The draw continues Arsenal's poor run of form that has seen them win just two of their last seven league matches, and leaves them 13 points behind Premier League leaders Leicester with just five games left to play.
"It's an awful finish to the campaign," said Smith on Super Sunday. "There is an air of apathy around the club in general and the season is dribbling to a close after being in a position to challenge for the title.
"There should be lots of questions at the end of the season, whether there will be I don't know. These aren't new problems, so you would hope there would be a postmortem and steps would be made to rectify it.
"You get the impression the players think there is nothing in the season anymore and they can't wait for it to finish."
While Arsenal's title challenge is now all but over, they could be looking over their shoulders if their form does not improve.
The Gunners still have to go to Manchester City on the penultimate day of the season and are only four points ahead of fifth-placed Manchester United.
"It's a real dagger between the ribs for Arsenal and the fans voiced their discontent at the end," said Smith. "They have seen too many disappointing performances at home.
"It's been flat at times this season where previously they have been strong. It hasn't happened in front of their own fans."
Former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry added: "Forget about the title, you have to make sure you stay in the top four.
"The way they played in the first half wasn't the best. They scored a good goal and they didn't capitalise on that."
