Liverpool's Jordan Henderson will become the 11th Liverpool player to skipper England against Slovenia on Tuesday, more than any other club.

England interim manager Gareth Southgate has selected the Liverpool captain as his skipper for the World Cup Qualifier after confirming Wayne Rooney will start on the bench.

Henderson will join former Reds England captains Peter Beardsley, Ray Clemence, Emlyn Hughes, Paul Ince, Kevin Keegan, Phil Neal, Phil Thompson, Michael Owen, Steven Gerrard and, most recently, James Milner.

However, in terms of total caps won as England skippers, Manchester United are unmatched with 133 compared to Liverpool's 87, which will rise to 88 when Henderson leads England out at the Stadion Stozice.

Rooney has captained England on 21 occasions, while Bryan Robson (65), David Beckham (24), Ray Wilkins (10), Rio Ferdinand (7), Bobby Charlton (3), Paul Ince (2) and Chris Smalling (1) have all led their country while playing for United.

Next on the list are Wolves, whose total of 93 is largely thanks to Billy Wright who wore the England armband 90 times.
