Xemi Fernandez has been allowed to leave Oxford United by mutual consent.

The midfielder joined the U's last summer as a free agent from Barcelona B but has struggled to hold down a place in the first-team.

Xemi, 22, made only four starts in League One, his last appearance coming in Oxford's 7-0 defeat to Wigan in December.

"It hasn't worked out here and I'm sad to be leaving because it is a fantastic club," the Spaniard said.

"But at the same time I want to be playing football and that means a new adventure for me elsewhere, which is exciting."
