Stevenage striker Ben Kennedy has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

The highly-rated Northern Ireland Under-19 captain, who has been tracked by several Barclays Premier League clubs, will undergo surgery having suffered a knee injury in training.

"This is yet another blow for the club and for Ben personally," Stevenage chairman Phil Wallace told the official club website.

"After returning from time away over Christmas his appearance against Leyton Orient showed everyone what he is capable of and I have no doubt that he will bounce back better than ever."

Stevenage lie 19th in Sky Bet League Two after failing to win any of their last five matches, but Wallace has promised players will be brought in to strengthen Teddy Sheringham's squad.

"I said recently I've never seen an injury crisis like this and I can't believe it's got worse," Wallace said.

"Combined with various loan deals expiring it does leave the squad particularly thin.
