FIFA vice-president Juan Angel Napout has been extradited to the United States to face questions over alleged corruption, the Swiss justice ministry has confirmed.
The 57-year-old Paraguayan, who resigned from his role as president of the South American football confederation CONMEBOL on Saturday, agreed to be extradited and was escorted by two US police officers to New York on Tuesday.
On December 3, Napout was arrested at a luxury hotel in Zurich and was one of 16 people named in a new indictment from US authorities investigating allegations of massive corruption at world football's governing body.
The Swiss justice ministry (FOJ) also confirmed Eduardo Li, the former head of the Costa Rican Football Federation, has withdrawn his appeal against his extradition to the United States.
Li was one of seven FIFA officials arrested in Zurich on May 27 following a US indictment on charges that he took bribes while selling football television rights.
A FOJ statement read: "As is customary, for reasons of security and privacy no details concerning when Li will be handed over to the USA will be disclosed."
