FIFA deputy secretary general Markus Kattner has been fired after an internal investigation.

Kattner was dismissed on Monday after a probe found "breaches of his fiduciary responsibilities in connection with his employment contract."

The 45-year-old, who has dual German/Swiss nationality, has been with football's world governing body since 2003 when he joined as director of finance.

Kattner handled the 2011 request to pay Michel Platini £1.3m which led to the UEFA president being banned from football for four years.

He took over FIFA's top administrative job when Jerome Valcke was suspended last year - Valcke was eventually sacked in January and suspended from all football activities for 12 years.
