L'OM close gap on Lille, Arles go down

Marseille came from behind to beat Montpellier 2-1 to close the gap on Ligue 1 leaders Lille to a single point. With Lille being held to a draw by Bordeaux on Saturday night, Marseille knew they needed a win to keep their title hopes alive. But things did not look good for the reigning champions when Olivier Giroud gave the home side a 64th-minute lead. Marseille hit back to level five minutes later through Andre-Pierre Gignac. Both sides were reduced to ten men ten minutes from time when Abdelhamid El Kaoutari was sent off for bringing down Loic Remy for a penalty with the Marseille striker also seeing red for slapping the Montpellier man. Taye Taiwo kept his cool from the penalty spot to give Marseille all three points and keep alive their hopes of retaining the title. Valenciennes condemned Arles to relegation with a 1-0 win. Gregory Pujol's second-half strike earned Valenciennes all three points to send Arles back to Ligue 2 after just one season in the top flight. Paris Saint Germain dented Lyon's title hopes with a 1-0 at Parc des Princes. Zoumana Camara scored the only goal of the game 13 minutes from time to move PSG up to fourth and leave Lyon six points behind leaders Lille.
