The race for the Euro 2016 Golden Boot is wide open after the first two rounds of group stages provided no clear favourite.

Thomas Muller and Cristiano Ronaldo were considered the favourites before a ball was kicked but have both failed to find the net so far.

Here's a look at the current leading contenders according to Sky Bet's odds…

Alvaro Morata (4/1 with Sky Bet)

The biggest pre-tournament question mark over Spain's chances of securing a hat-trick of European Championships titles seemed to be their lack of a prolific frontman, an issue which was clear to see as they laboured to a 1-0 win over Czech Republic. Doubts over Morata's ability to fill the boots of Fernando Torres and David Villa were exacerbated as he failed to take a host of chances in their opener, with Vicente del Bosque pulling the striker off shortly after the hour mark. However, he was handed another chance against Turkey and took it impressively, scoring early in both halves in a 3-0 win which convinced Sky Bet to install Spain as their new outright favourites and Morata for the Golden Boot.

Romelu Lukaku (7/1 with Sky Bet)

Unlike Morata, who had scored a relatively modest seven Serie A goals for Juventus, Lukaku boasted a more impressive scoring record, netting 18 times for Everton. However, he was also criticised for an ineffective opening display against Italy as Belgium slumped to a 2-0 loss. The Belgians, and Lukaku in particular, responded impressively, matching Spain's biggest win of the tournament to date, with Marc Wilmots also rewarded for his faith with a brace from his first-choice frontman.

Dimitri Payet (9/1 with Sky Bet)

Arguably the star all-round performer of the tournament so far, Payet provided the hosts with the perfect curtain raiser with his stunning left-footed winner against Turkey. France then laboured to another late win over Albania in their second group game, with Payet this time providing a nerve-settler in following up Antoine Griezmann's opener.

Gareth Bale (12/1 with Sky Bet)

Wales' Gareth Bale celebrates scoring the opening goal during the UEFA Euro 2016, Group B match at the Stade Felix Bollaert-Delelis, Lens.

While Payet is expected to have plenty more opportunities to add to his two goals with the well-fancied hosts, it would be some feat for Bale's Wales to go deep in France. They looked on course to book a place in the final 16 in leading England 1-0 thanks to their star man's second free-kick of the tournament but could still need a result against Russia to qualify. If they are to go far in the tournament then Bale will surely have to add to his current tally of two.

Antoine Griezmann (12/1 with Sky Bet)

Unlike Morata and Lukaku, Griezmann paid the price for failing to net in his country's opener as Didier Deschamps dropped him. If it was a response that Deschamps was after then it worked a treat, with the Atletico Madrid star coming off the bench to head home late on to ensure the hosts secured qualification with back-to-back dramatic wins.

Cristiano Ronaldo (12/1 with Sky Bet)

If stars failing to shine has been the theme of the tournament so far then Ronaldo personifies it, enduring the most frustrating of campaigns with two goalless performances. The Real Madrid star looked well below par in Portugal's opening 1-1 draw with Iceland amid suggestions that he is struggling with fitness issues. He then missed even more chances and a penalty in a stalemate with Austria, leaving his nation's chances of just making the final 16 in doubt.

Thomas Muller (12/1 with Sky Bet)

Thomas Muller found the net in the second half for Germany against Hungary

Much like Spain, the big debate in Germany surrounds their line-leading options. However, there was little to suggest that they've found the winning formula in their second game, a tepid 0-0 draw with Poland. Muller appears to be paying the price for a lack of a targetman to work off, with defences more wary of his movement than that of Mario Gotze, who lacks both the power and pace to dominate a backline. However, if there's one thing we've learnt about major tournaments it's that the Germans nearly always find a recipe for success and it would be a big surprise if Muller wasn't a key ingredient.

Graziano Pelle (18/1 with Sky Bet)

Graziano Pelle of Italy celebrates

Italy were arguably the most impressive team in the first round of matches, blowing away a fancied Belgium side 2-0. Southampton's Pelle provided the icing on the cake with his late effort, a fourth goal in six international appearances this season. Plenty suggested before a ball way kicked that this Italian squad is among the least talented sent to a major tournament and Pelle certainly has big boots to fill in the likes of Francesco Totti and Roberto Baggio. However, this Italian outfit are showing the comradeship and the collective qualities of genuine contenders.

Daniel Sturridge/Jamie Vardy/Harry Kane (18/1 /25/1 / 33/1 with Sky Bet)

Jamie Vardy of England celebrates with Daniel Sturridge

The debate over who should lead Roy Hodgson's line will rage on until, and probably beyond, England's final group game against Slovakia. All eyes will be on the team sheet and those selected are sure to shorten in the betting. Kane started the tournament as the main man but he and Raheem Sterling paid the price for failing to net against Russia and then again in the opening 45 minutes against Wales, with Daniel Sturridge and Jamie Vardy both scoring after coming off the bench to all but book England's spot in the final 16.
