Sky Bet League 2 side Crawley have appointed former Chelsea and Arsenal coach Dermot Drummy as their new manager on a two-year deal.

The 55-year-old has appointed former Aldershot coach Matt Gray as his assistant and will take training for the first time on Thursday ahead of Saturday's clash with Dagenham.

Drummy, who succeeds Mark Yates, told the Reds' official website: "I'm delighted to be at Crawley and I am really looking forward to taking the club forward.

"Hopefully I can produce a team that plays attractive football that excites our fans and brings the whole club together - players, supporters and the people who work for the club.

"I can't wait to get started. I'm looking forward to meeting the players and preparing for Saturday's game."

Drummy joined the coaching staff at Arsenal in 1999 where he helped to develop players such as Cesc Fabregas and Jack Wilshere. He then moved to Chelsea as under-21 coach in 2007 and led the Blues to a first FA Youth Cup in 40 years.

After a spell as international coach he left Stamford Bridge in January 2015.
