Terry Gibson is unsure what will be gained by Tony Adams becoming Granada manager until the end of the season, and believes their need for a director of football is greater.

Adams, 50, is vice-president of DDMC - a football club management company owned by Granada president John Jiang - and has been working with the team since November, most recently as sporting director.

Granada are second-bottom in La Liga, seven points off safety with seven games to go, and Gibson believes the move may leave Adams in an odd situation, and is not convinced the move is correct for the club and former Arsenal defender.

Gibson said on the La Liga Weekly podcast: "The biggest issue I have with this is that Granada desperately need a director of football, they need some guidance.

"The new owners have taken over the club, we know what type of club it has been in the last five or six seasons, which involved getting promoted from the third tier to the top tier, then maintaining their position in the top flight.

"It was unique in terms of its relationship with Udinese and Watford, lots of players changing around between those three clubs, players coming in and out of club.

"With new owners coming in, we saw a whole squad depart last season. The starting XI that finished last season all left. Good players all left, so it was always going to be tough for them to survive.

"I was against the idea of a team like Granada sharing their director of football with another club in China. I can't see how that could be easy for Tony Adams to do. I think the lines become blurred."

Gibson also says that the club desperately need a director of football, and added that he believes Granada have left too much of a gap between themselves and safety in La Liga.

"I think the need for a director of football was greater than the need for a new coach for the final eight games.

"I think they desperately need a director of football to delegate, to appoint the right people and to make the right player signings.

"I think the fact that the director of football is going to become the coach, I think it makes it difficult for the coach, Tony Adams in this case, to go back to become the director of football, unless this is truly on a temporary basis.

"I look at Granada now, I think it's been coming for a while, I think they'll go down, and I don't see what is to be gained by this period of uncertainty at the end of the season."
