USA international to train in Spain in January

United States international midfielder Freddy Adu is to train with Spanish club Rayo Vallecano for two weeks. Philadelphia Union playmaker Adu, along with a number of MLS stars, is utilising the close-season break in North America to spend time in Europe training. The 22-year-old, who was labelled as the next big thing as a teenager, is not expected to join the Spanish club permanently. Adu scored twice in the 2011 MLS season from 11 appearances after leaving Benfica on a free transfer and agent Richard Motzkin believes his client will benefit from the experience. "Union have been sympathetic and they understand it's a great opportunity for him to train in Spain this winter, where he will gain experience," commented Motzkin.
