GRANVILLE JOINS CITY

LEEDS UNITED have agreed a fee of £1M with Manchester City/s Danny Granville The full back is now set to agree terms and complete the move to Maine Road on a permanent basis after a three month loan spell. The former Chelsea left back, who was brought to Elland Road for £1.6 million by George Graham in the summer of 1998, found it hard to win an established place in the United side due to the emergence of Ian Harte as Leeds` regular left sided defender. United Chairman Peter Ridsdale today confirmed that the fee had been agreed on Monday and that now it was down to Danny to sort out his personal terms with the Manchester club before finalising the move. Ridsdale agreed that Harte`s amazing run of form was the main reason that Danny failed to win a regular slot in the Leeds side, although it came as some surprise that United boss David O`Leary allowed Granville to spend three months on loan at Maine Road. This left Leeds without a regular left back to provide cover if Harte picked up an injury, a problem that became apparent earlier this month when the Irish International defender had an operation to cure a knee problem. Gary Kelly has filled in on the left side of the defence for Leeds` last two matches as the team continued their now record unbeaten run. There are encouraging signs that Harte could be back in the Leeds line-up to face Locomtiv Moscow on Thursday night in the UEFA Cup second round first leg at Elland Road.
