SPURS WIN RACE FOR POSH DUO

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR look set to complete the £1.2 million signings of young Peterborough United pair Matthew Etherington and Simon Davies early next week after having their bids for the talented duo accepted.

Peterborough chairman Peter Boizot confirmed that Spurs bid had been successful and that the deal will be finalised next week should the players agree personal terms and pass the standard medical.

Etherington, (pictured) an 18-year-old striker, and midfielder Davies, 20, had been linked to a number of top Premiership clubs, including Manchester United - where the pair had spent time in the summer on trial - Leeds United and Aston Villa but Boizot admitted that Spurs only ever really had concrete interest.

"Its was the only offer we had and we could not stand in the way of their careers." Boizot said. "The players told me they wanted to leave because they have progressed as far as they can at the club. I think the offer is fair."

Spurs will pay £500,000 for England Youth international Etherington and £700,000 for Davies, who has already appeared in the Welsh Under-21 squad.
