BECKHAM BANNED FOR ONE GAME

DAVID BECKHAM has received a one match ban for his sending off against Necaxa in the World Club Championship, a Fifa disciplinary committee has announced.

Beckham received his marching orders after 40 minutes for a cynical lunge on Jose Milian and has been fined £800.

Manager Sir Alex Ferguson has also received a one match ban for `unacceptable behaviour` and has been fined £2,000

This means that Ferguson will not be allowed on the sideline for the crucial encounter against Brazilian`s Vasco De Gama - the game that should decide whether the English champions reach the final.

Beckham will be relieved that he has not been banned for more than one game as it was feared he would receive a three match caution for his lunging challenge.

Ferguson may consider promoting Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to the starting line-up after yet another impressive substitute appearance but the option of rotating his squad has been limited by the fact that United now face themselves in a must-win situation.
