BATTY WINS MIDFIELDER POLL

DAVID BATTY has won through in Optasoccer`s poll of the best holding midfielders in the Premiership.

The Leeds United star surprisingly polled a fifth of almost 7000 votes to come out ahead of Arsenal`s midfield pairing of Petit and Vieira and Manchester United rival Roy Keane.

Arsenal can take a lot of pride in taking both second and third place in our exclusive Opta poll - with Petit polling 15% and Vieira narrowly behind with 14% of the votes - meaning almost a third of all users thought that Arsenal had the best midfielder.

Keane found himself equal third with Vieira, both players polling just under 1000 votes.

Middlesbrough`s Paul Ince was some way off the pace of the top four with nine percent but gained around 630 votes, and found himself level with our ever-popular `other` category.

Didier Deschamps deserves a mention with his seven percent and Didi Hamann can consider himself unlucky to only poll 350 votes.
