WESTERVELD LAUNCHES ATTACK ON FANS

LIVERPOOL goalkeeper Sander Westerveld has launched a scathing attack on the clubs fans calling a section of the Anfield support `stupid and insulting`.

The 25-year-old Dutch stopper has claimed that he has been insulted and ridiculed about his form so much that he just cannot take it anymore and is not prepared to suffer any longer.

"Some people think it`s funny to make jokes about goalkeepers when they come up to me but I`ve just about had enough," said Westerveld. "`If someone two metres away from me drops their glass of beer on the floor, as was the case on Saturday night, you can bet that a wise guy has asked if it was me."

"Even my postman gets in on the act when he gives me my letters, he says: "Watch you don`t drop them, I don`t like these comments and they don`t exactly help your confidence either.

The Dutch international was criticised by some Liverpool fans after the Newcastle game when they blamed him for the Alan Shearer goal.

"One guy told me I was lucky to have Sami Hyypia and Stephane Henchoz in front of me. That attitude is stupid, another told me he`d been a fan for years and asked if I really knew what it means to be a Liverpool player."

"To suggest that is not only unbelievable, it`s insulting. I don`t mind criticism as long as it`s justified."
