GUUS PONDERING CELTIC SWITCH

GUUS HIDDINK has revealed that he will seriously consider taking over as Celtic`s new coach in the summer, despite rebuffing the original offer from the Glasgow giants.

Hiddink is concerned with Real Betis` reaction to his interest in the Parkhead job, and that is why he wants to postpone any thoughts of moving to Scotland until after their Primera Liga status is confirmed ahead of next season.

"I would not have agreed to speak to the officials from Celtic if I hadn`t been convinced they were an ambitious club," revealed the Dutchman. "But it`s not enough to say you are ambitious.

"The people inside the club have to prove they are more concerned with the future than Celtic`s past. I know that Celtic is a massive club known throughout the world. They have a great history but, in the eyes of the Celtic officials, Rangers have been the dominant club for too long in Scotland."

Hiddink is clearly considering the switch to Glasgow, and it appears that he has jumped to the top of Celtic`s short list of candidates, with the Parkhead officials determined to get the right man after the John Barnes debacle.

"I cannot give out any guarantees because I still have a lot of thinking to do," he told The Sunday Mail. "But I do know this is a job which can`t be done overnight.

"I have to make my decision based on what I know about Celtic`s level of ambition. Then I have to consider my family before I commit myself to leaving Spain."

Meanwhile, Henrik Larsson feels he still has an outside chance of making Euro 2000 - despite earlier ruling himself out of contention for a place in Sweden`s squad. The broken leg victim said: "The hope is not gone."
