THREE ENGLAND UNDER-21`S SUSPENDED BY FA

THREE England Under-21 stars have been suspended from international selection for three months after breaking a squad curfew during the European Under-21 Championships in Slovakia.

Aston Villa midfielder Lee Hendrie, Blackburn Rovers striker Matt Jansen and Derby County midfielder Seth Johnson were caught having visited a nearby local bar and consuming alcohol on a non-match night between the second and third matches of the tournament.

The international ban, imposed by the Football Association, will be in effect at the start of next season.

Under-21 boss and FA technical director Howard Wilkinson discovered the breach of discipline the following morning of the incident and has only now taken action.

In a statement, the FA revealed: "As a consequence of a breach of discipline during the recent UEFA Under-21 Championships in Slovakia, the FA have suspended three players from international selection for a period of three months commencing at the start next season.

"The players concerned are Lee Hendrie of Aston Villa, Matt Jansen of Blackburn Rovers and Seth Johnson of Derby County.

"All three excluded themselves from the team hotel in Slovakia and consumed alcohol on a non-match day during the tournament.

"This was contrary to team disciplinary instructions and was dealt with accordingly.

"The FA will make no further comment on this matter."

The three players are not understood to have caused any problems at the bar, which was opposite the team hotel, yet still broke the strict instructions of Wilkinson.

Of the three suspended players, Hendrie has won a full England cap when he came on as a substitute in a Wembley friendly against the Czech Republic in November 1998.
