NEC SIGN HRISTOV

BARNSLEY'S record signing Georgi Hristov has signed a two-year deal with Dutch side NEC Nijmegen, and will complete the free transfer move on July 6.

The Macedonian striker has found life hard in Yorkshire and he entered talks with the KPN Telecompetitie outfit after it emerged that Tykes manager Dave Bassett was not going to offer him a new contract.

It became evident that Barnsley were going to release the striker on July 1, as it would have been unlikely that he would regain a work permit due to him only making six starts for the Oakwell outfit last-term, thus failing to play in the required percentage of games to conform with Department of Employment regulations.

Hristov's decision will be a blow to French outfit Lens, who were said to be aggressively pursuing the 24-year-old.
