SMITH MAKES DOUBLE SWOOP

More from Football

DUNDEE UNITED have made a double swoop, snapping up Alphonse Tchami and Stephen Wright.

Cameroon international striker Tchami (pictured) had a trial at Bolton over the summer, but Trotters manager Sam Allardydce decided not to offer the 29-year-old a deal.

Tchami has signed a two-year contract, with The Tangerines giving a nominal fee to UAE club Al Wasl.

United boss Alex Smith received a glowing report on the former Boca Junios and Hertha Berlin, and gave him a trial before making the move permanent.

He have his opinion of the Cameroon striker, saying:"It has been a long time coming.  But hopefully time well spent for Dundee United.

"From what I've seen on video and in training we could have something a bit special."

Meanwhile, Wright will see it as a chance to kick-start his career after he spent a nightmare season at Bradford, where he failed to start a single game.

The defender revealed his relief, saying: "My career has been a bit stop-start for the past couple of years but hopefully that will change now."
