BERKOVIC TURNS TO HIS BRIEFS

CELTIC midfielder Eyal Berkovic has brought in his lawyer to try and help him get his place back in Martin O'Neill's side.

The Israeli international - who has started just three out of 16 games this season - ordered lawyer Yoel Goldberg to write to O'Neill demanding to know why his client was being left out of the line-up.

The move follows comments by the midfielder on Friday that he would leave the Scottish Premier League leaders by Christmas if he had not got his place back in the first team.

Goldberg's letter, a copy of which was sent to an Israeli newspaper, claims that Berkovic - signed for £5.75 million from West Ham in 1999 - is the 'best player at the club.'

The Daily Record newspaper in Scotland spoke with Goldberg, who confirmed he had sent a letter to Celtic's chief executive, Allan MacDonald, and quoted the agent as saying: "I wrote at the request of Eyal because he wants to know exactly where he stands.

"Eyal has nothing against the manager who has the right to choose who he likes. But he (O'Neill) has told him nothing at all.

"Eyal told me he is the best player in training but he receives no explanation for being left out and he has a right to one.

"Our purpose is to bring this to a conclusion. If you (Celtic) want him, no problem, if you don't, sell him."
