HEGGEM VOWS TO CARRY ON PLAYING

LIVERPOOL defender Vegard Heggem has rubbished claims that his football career is over and says that he is trying to get to the bottom of his injury trouble before attempting a comeback.

The 25-year-old lasted for only five minutes of Liverpool's 4-0 demolition of Derby on Sunday before he had to be substituted because of his injured hamstring.

The Norwegian international is unhappy with press claims that his career is over and has been working closely with the medical staff at Anfield and London neurologist to find the cause of his persistent injury.

"There have been some things written in the Norwegian press that this injury could put my career in danger because I have had it off and on for a year. That is pure rubbish," said Heggem.

"I am not even thinking about that in the slightest. After all, I am only 25 years old, and I believe I have maybe seven or eight good years ahead of me as a professional footballer.

"I'm quite confident that we can get to the bottom of this problem and that it can be sorted out," he told his website. "Also, I believe I will be back again enjoying my football, and that my club and my country will make good use of me."
