TOLDO REVEALS UNITED BID

FIORENTINA keeper Francesco Toldo has confirmed that Manchester United tried to sign him during the summer, a story revealed by planetfootball.com in April.

The giant custodian, whose penalty-saving abilities made him the hero of Italy during Euro 2000, confirmed that the Premiership champions tried to lure him to Old Trafford.

Speaking to 45 Minutes, Toldo also revealed his admiration for the Premiership and his belief that Arsenal are the best team.

"I love watching the Premiership," Toldo enthused. "Manchester United win a lot, and they asked me to join them during the summer but I didn`t go there.

"I like Arsenal very much, I think Arsenal are a great team with a long tradition and so yes, Arsenal are the best team in England."

He also spoke of his desire to play in the English top-flight, saying: "I would like that very much - there is a great friendliness in the Premiership.

"Last summer, I played a friendly and I was signing autographs behind the bench, that would not happen in Italy."
