SADDLERS SNAP UP EKELUND
The 28-year-old midfielder spent last season in France, playing for Toulouse, but currently without a club, he initially joined First Division Bolton Wanderers on trial.
However, after picking up an injury during his time at The Reebok Stadium, he was unable to secure a permanent contract, and The Saddlers moved in to offer the player the chance to prove himself.
Ekelund was one of a number of players to join the Midlands club on trial this week, and after he impressed director of football Paul Taylor, the former Southampton midfielder agreed to sign up with the Second Division hopefuls.
"He has joined us initially on a short term contract," confirmed Taylor on the official Walsall website. "I want to see how he fits into the system that Ray Graydon plays.
"If he can adapt to our style of play, and produce his natural ability, he would prove to be a very good signing."
With captain Tom Bennett ruled out through injury for Saturday's visit of Port Vale to Becsot, Dean Keates is expected to retain his place in the starting line-up, but with Ekelund now available for that game, Keates will be wanting to put in another impressive display for The Saddlers to boost his chances of a regular first team spot.
