PEACOCK RETIRES THROUGH INJURY

BLACKBURN ROVERS defender Darren Peacock has retired from professional football - after injury ended his hopes of continuing at the top level.

the 32-year-old received a neck injury whilst on loan at Wolves against Fulham, and has admitted that he has been advised by doctors to leave the game.

"It's not how I planned to end my career, but the medical people said it would be too risky for me to play on," said the former Newcastle star.

Peacock started his career at Newport before to Hereford - where he began to forge a reputation as a tough tackling defender - and attracted interest for QPR who paid out £200,000 for his services.

After playing over 140 games for the London side Newcastle swooped for £2.7 million in 1994, where he made 175 appearances before a free transfer Rovers four years later.
