BEN DOVER BOUND

GILLINGHAM`S Ben White has been allowed to join Dover Athletic in a bid to further his footballing education.

The 18-year-old defender is heading for a month`s stint in the Nationwide Conference, with manager Andy Hessenthaler happy to see him obtain some regular first team football.

James Pinnock had travelled the same route earlier in the season, and White will be keen to change reserve team soccer for the more competitive edge found in the higher echelons of non-league football.

Striker Christian Lee, meanwhile, is due to link up with Ian Atkins, who knows him from his Northampton days, in a trial spell at Carlisle United next week.

Hessenthaler, who suffered a hamstring pull in training this week, has confirmed our earlier story regarding the Bruce Dyer situation.

The Gills are tracking the former Watford forward, and Hess said: "We are monitoring the situation very closely. I think a lot may depend on when Shipperley is fit for them and if Dave Bassett is still willing to allow Bruce to go."
