BECK MAKES DEADLINE MOVES

CARLISLE UNITED midfielder Richard Prokas has joined Second Division Cambridge United for a nominal fee - one of five players to move to the Abbey Stadium on Thursday.

Prokas, who gained notoriety after making a horror-tackle on Arsenal's Patrick Vieira during an FA Cup clash earlier this season has spent his entire professional career at Brunton Park.

It is understood that Carlisle initially turned down an approach from U's boss John Beck (pictured) and the deal was only completed through the intervention of the player's agent.

This move could now pave the way for Scunthorpe's Darryn Stamp to make a switch from Scunthorpe to The Cumbrians.

The U's have also signed Finnish winger Tero Pilvi from troubled Scottish side Airdrie, Middlesbrough defender Christian Hanson and Cardiff centre back David Greene - all on free transfers.

Fulham's young defender Gary McCracken completes the quintet after joining Cambridge until the end of the season.
