TRANMERE TARGET INCE AS NEW GUV`NOR
The 33-year-old has been looking to make the move into management and Boro are preparing a new contract that would give the former England man a coaching role.
However, Tranmere are hoping that they could persuade the Merseyside-based Ince to take up the managerial post.
The Teesside club would obviously be reluctant to allow one of their lynchpins to leave the club, but would not stand in his way if that is what he wanted to do.
It is thought that Ince could team-up with former England colleague Carlton Palmer in a management duo, with the Sheffield Wednesday man taking over as first team coach.
John Aldridge vacated the Prenton Park hotseat ten days ago and the relegation threatened club are in desperate need of a new manager.
If Ince did decide that the challenge was too good to turn down then he would not be allowed to leave until the summer, as Boro themselves are embroiled in a relegation battle that will continue until May.
The Boro man also has a connection with Tranmere in that his son Thomas plays for one of Rovers` youth sides.
