REIZIGER LEAVING BARCA FOR ENGLAND

BARCELONA defender Michael Reiziger has revealed that he wants to join a Premiership club in the summer, after deciding to call time on his Camp Nou career.

The Catalan club have been trying to persuade the Dutchman to sign a new long-term contract but the former Ajax man has his sights set on a move to England.

After playing as a midfielder with Groningen, Louis van Gaal converted him into a robust full back and a number of sides will be alerted by his comments, including Middlesbrough, who contacted Barca with a view to expressing interest in a number of their stars when bidding to sign Dani Garcia.

"I have been involved in negotiations with Barcelona for a new contract," Reiziger told icons.com.

"They'd like to sign me for another four years but, as I am 28 now, that would mean that I wouldn't be able to fulfil my ambition of playing in England until I am 32.

"I think that's too late so I am thinking of making a move to The Premiership next season. I have had a great time at Barcelona but it has always been an ambition of mine to play in England and, if I am going to do it before I am too old, then I must do it now.

"I have consulted my family, who are obviously affected by this decision too, and they have agreed to the possible move because they know just how much this means to me."

Arsenal and Chelsea would also be expected to show an interest in bidding for the speedy Dutch international, who has a wealth of experience.
