MUSCAT HANDED AUSSIE CAPTAINCY

WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS defender Kevin Muscat has been rewarded for his consistency and commitment by being handed the captain`s armband for Australia`s Oceania World Cup qualifier with Tonga on Monday.

Muscat, who had earned a bad-boy reputation for a number of controversial incidents - most notably when being labelled "the most hated man in football" by Birmingham ace Martin Grainger - has shrugged off the problems and performed admirably for Dave Jones` side.

His efforts have been recognised by national coach Frank Farina, who has given him the nod to lead the team at Coffs Harbour.

Muscat replaces Paul Okon, who is staying with Middlesbrough for their Premiership clash with Sunderland the same day.
