AGENT DENIES IRWIN RUMOURS
Irwin is out of contract with Manchester United, and free to leave after 11 years distinguished service at Old Trafford, even though he may yet be persuaded to stay by Sir Alex Ferguson.
The former Oldham full back admitted he wants to continue playing at the highest level, and has been linked with a switch to Middlesbrough when Steve McClaren is officially confirmed as the new manager at The Riverside.
Bhoys boss Martin O'Neill is also rumoured to be keen on the 35-year-old but Stretford played down the speculation.
"I have not had any discussions with Celtic Football Club about Denis Irwin," he affirmed. "None whatsoever.
"He has an offer from United of a one-year deal and he will tell them of his decision when he gets back from his holiday.
"He's just gone away like all these boys, who have gone on holiday after a long, hard season.
"I certainly don't want to interrupt their holidays."
Stretford also denied Celtic's link with Sporting Lisbon keeper Peter Schmeichel, who could be about to announce his retirement from the game.
The Danish star is tipped to return to his homeland, although he has yet to make a final decision over his future.
