CAMPBELL HURT OVER SPURS LIES
Campbell, 26, will end a 10-year association with the club when his contract expires on July 1, but the England ace says it would be difficult to pull on a Spurs shirt on again, after their claims he demanded £130,000-per-week to stay in North London.
"That's not true. I'm disappointed, hurt. Ten years of working for one club means nothing to certain people and now the comments they've made have made the situation difficult," Campbell told Skysports.com
"Who knows? In four years' time I could have been coming back or at least had the opportunity to come back. But that would be really hard now. In that case it has altered my way of thinking."
His decision to quit White Hart Lane boiled down to the fact he wanted to play in the top European competitions, something Spurs were unable to offer him.
Although he admits the decision was 'heart-wrenching' he is angry with Spurs' new owners ENIC about revealing the details of their negotiations in public.
Ironically, George Graham was sacked for publicly stating transfer details discussed with ENIC, and Campbell says they should have remained behind closed doors.
"I've been getting messages and praise from outside the club, but not from certain people in the heirarchy," he added.
"Sometimes they can say it didn't work out, thanks for your services, and then who knows, maybe I would have come back? But I got more information off the man on the street.
"It felt like the wind was with me and then it was tryng to blow me down. It's hard. I'm very disappointed, my decision was heart-wrenching.
"The tie with fans is never going to be cut, because they've been with me through a lot of things - I've played a lot of games for them in over the decade I've been at the club."
