JUVE CLOSE TO SALAS DEAL

MARCELO SALAS looks increasingly likely to make the switch from Lazio to Juventus - with suggestions that personal terms have been agreed, and a £14.3 million fee negotiated.

Salas was targeted by Valencia, after his career at Lazio appeared to hit something of a hiatus.

The brilliant Chilean marksman has been criticised for his weight and commitment in the Roman press, but looked to have forged a way back into the Biancoceleste starting XI after the arrival of Dino Zoff as coach.

However, things have not worked out, and with Juventus still to fill their number nine shirt at the club, Salas's decision to stay in Italy 'for family reasons' appears to be a thinly veiled excuse to hide the fact he had a better offer.

Lazio boss Dino Zoff admitted that there had been developments on Salas' situation, but refused to reveal what it was.

"There are definitely developments regarding the Salas situation," said Zoff .

"We will see what happens, but there should be an outcome in the next few days."

On top of the mooted multi-million pound fee, the inclusion of a player in the deal is also likely, in a similar offer to the one that Valencia made, which would have seen Kily Gonzalez move to Italy.

Michele Paramatti, Alessandro Birindelli or Ciro Ferrara have all been mentioned as likely candidates to make the move to Rome, with the latter generally suggested to be the chosen one.
