O'S TO OFFER LOCKWOOD NEW DEAL

More from Football

LEYTON ORIENT have offered star full back Matt Lockwood an improved contract in a desperate attempt to keep him at Brisbane Road.

The 25-year-old defender was set for a move to Millwall in the summer,  but Crystal Palace are set to rival The Lions for his signature.

However, O's boss Tommy Taylor says he will not leave East London on the cheap and hopes a new deal will persuade him to stay with the club.

"Unless Millwall come up with a bigger offer Matthew will remain with us and we are very happy with that," Taylor said.

"We are going to offer him another contract and it is up to him if he wants to stay with Leyton Orient.

"If he declines the offer then he is going to have to play really well for someone to sign him for next season. Matthew is only young and is still learning the game."

Lockwood is out of contract next summer which will enable him to walk away from Brisbane Road on a Bosman free, but Taylor will be keen to cash in on his prized asset if he fails to agree fresh terms with Orient.
