STEFANOVIC FACING LENGTHY BAN

THE KNVB have recommended that Vitesse Arnhem player Dejan Stefanovic serve an eight-match suspension for kicking Rolf Landerl in the face.

The incident took place during a cup match between the two teams on September 18, but the Yugoslav escaped punishment after referee Patrick Vink failed to spot the clash.

However, television cameras picked up the incident and the defender was reported to the KNVB.

The prosecutor for the Dutch FA studied the replays and decided that the incident was of such seriousness to command an eight-game suspension.

Stefanovic has yet to confirm whether he will accept the ruling or lodge an appeal.
