SEAMAN OFFERED GUNNERS COACHING ROLE

ARSENAL manager Arsene Wenger has told veteran goalkeeper David Seaman that he will have a coaching role at the club when he decides to retire.

The 38-year-old is still Arsenal's and England's number one, but many are speculating that he could hang up his gloves after the World Cup in Japan & Korea.

Seaman has already been asked to take over from Bob Wilson, who is quitting as Arsenal goalkeeping coach at the end of the season.

"I want to travel around the world and show it to my wife. I was lucky as a player to see many things but in life every so often you say that enough is enough and I believe that next summer is the time to stop as Arsenal's goalkeeping coach," said Wilson.

"Of course I have enjoyed my time here but you have to know when it is time to stop."

Wenger is still confident in Seaman's abilities and has not ruled out bringing in a coach to cover the England goalkeeper's future role, if he continues his Highbury career next season.

"At the moment David is still England's number one goalkeeper," said Wenger.

"I have watched David working with the other goalkeepers and he is a very good teacher. We might need a bridge between Bob's retirement and the start of David as goalkeeping coach, but to keep him here is definitely something I have in mind. He is an Arsenal man.

"David is a very intelligent man. He will be welcomed once he stops his career as a player. He is a good communicator and he commands respect because of his huge experience in the game."

Arsenal have already signed Richard Wright from Ipswich Town and his sterling performance in the Champions League against Panathinaikos, seems to confirm that The Gunners have found the heir to Seaman's thrown.

"His decisions always seem to be the right ones. We have bought well with him," Wenger said of Wright. "He's composed and reads the game well."
