FOWLER AGREES TERMS WITH LEEDS

ROBBIE FOWLER moved a step closer to completing his shock move to Leeds United from Liverpool after agreeing personal terms with the Yorkshire club.

The England international travelled up to Leeds on Wednesday to meet United chairman Peter Ridsdale, and personal terms have been sorted out over a five-year deal.

The deal is subject to the 26-year-old passing a thorough medical at Elland Road and the move is set to be finalised on Thursday.

"We have agreed terms with Robbie and we are now waiting on the medical which should be completed by tomorrow afternoon.," said Ridsdale.

Liverpool accepted an undisclosed bid believed to be in the region of £11 million from Leeds on Tuesday night, after the player refused to sign a new deal.

Should the deal as expected go through it end a 15-year spell at Anfield for the prolific hit-man, who was known as 'God' among the club's followers.

Fowler is set to make his debut for Leeds this Sunday against Fulham at Elland Road, if he finalises his transfer across the Pennines.

Meanwhile, Liverpool caretaker boss Phil Thompson has dismissed rumours that the club were interested in signing Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke.

Reports in the past week have linked Liverpool with a surprise move for the out-of-favour Trinidad & Tobago ace and that the imminent departure of Fowler to Leeds could see them step up their interest in the former Aston Villa man.

Thompson has dismissed the reports and when asked if the club were interested in Yorke he told the official Liverpool website: "No. Simple as that."
