HIBS SIGN 'THE TANK'

HIBERNIAN have completed the signing of Ecuadorian international striker Eduardo Hurtado.

The 32-year-old, nicknamed 'The Tank', has signed an initial deal which will keep him at Easter Road until the end of the season with a view to an extension.

Hurtado has joined on a free transfer after he terminated his contract with Argentinos Juniors.

The powerful striker, who has netted 34 goals in 71 internationals for Ecuador, has signed in time to make his debt in this weekend's game against Motherwell.

Hurtado joins fellow countryman and international team-mate Ulises de la Cruz in Edinburgh.

Hibs boss Alex McLeish is delighted to have bolstered his squad as he tries to turnaround their fortunes after a mixed start to the season.

"Eduardo has been brought in to strengthen the squad," McLeish told the club's official website. "I have repeatedly said we will only go out when we can bring in a player who will add quality to the existing squad, and Eduardo has an impressive pedigree.

"I hope our fans turn out to give him a real welcome to Hibernian."
