IZZET HAPPY TO STAY
Izzet's recent performances for the U's have caught the eye of top flight duo Ipswich and Leicester, but the 21-year-old believes he needs to continue learning the ropes at Layer Road before he can contemplate life on a bigger stage.
"I read one of these stories over the weekend," Izzet told the East Anglian Daily Times. "It's all very flattering, but I don't think that I'll be going anywhere just yet.
"I'm only just starting my career and learning my trade at Colchester. It's nice to be linked to Premiership clubs, and some time in the future I'd like to be given the chance to play in the top division.
"At the moment though, I'm concentrating on playing well for Colchester United. That's my only concern.
"I read of Leicester City's interest in me, while Karl Duguid said that a scout from Ipswich was watching the two of us at the recent FA Cup game against York City.
"Unfortunately, that was the match when I limped off with an injured ankle in the first half. That was a shame because I'd have liked to have shown what I can do."
A transfer to Filbert Street would see Izzet join forces with his brother Muzzy, while he is not the only Colchester player to become a mooted Ipswich target - as his midfield cohort Thomas Pinault has also been watched by the Tractor Boys.
Izzet started his career as a trainee in the Premiership, but he failed to make a first team appearance for Charlton before moving to Layer Road in April.
Meanwhile, Colchester have taken Crystal Palace central defender Jonathan Boardman on trial and he will play for the U's reserves this week.
Boardman, 20, has yet to make a first team bow for The Eagles, but he has gained experience while on loan at non-league outfits Margate and Woking.
