FOWLER ARRESTED

LEEDS' new £11 million signing Robbie Fowler was arrested for an alleged act of criminal damage in the Hunslet area of Leeds, along with a 25-year-old man, on Tuesday night.

The former Liverpool man was released along with the other man without charge on Wednesday morning.

"I can confirm that two men aged 25 and 26 were arrested for an alleged incident of criminal damage in Hunslet at 11.45pm last night," a spokesman for West Yorkshire police informed Planetfootball.com.

"Following initial enquiries both men were released and no further action is being taken at this time."

Leeds chairman Peter Risdale admitted he had spoken to Fowler about the incident, declaring: "I've spoken to Robbie. I am satisfied he was a completely innocent party to whatever took place and the club will be taking no action."

Toxteth-born Fowler was no stranger to controversy during his Liverpool days with nightclub incidents and training ground bust-ups testing the patience of former coach Gerard Houllier.

Leeds and manager David O'Leary will hope the incident in Hunslet is nothing more than a hiccup and look to the player to put his well-publicised off-the-field problems firmly behind him and concentrate on his new career at Elland Road.
