Blackpool set to complete Taylor deal

BLACKPOOL are close to concluding a deal for Stockport County's top goalscorer Scott Taylor, but John Murphy's move in the opposite direction has collapsed.

County wanted Murphy as a replacement for Shefki Kuqi, who departed for Sheffield Wednesday last week, and they had agreed a swap deal with Blackpool for his services.

However, the deal collapsed as Murphy could not agree personal terms with the First Division strugglers, but Blackpool have pressed ahead with their bid for Taylor regardless.

He will arrive at Bloomfield Road on a free transfer and is set to sign a two-and-a-half-year deal with Steve McMahon's side.

"Scott Taylor will, hopefully, barring any last minute hiccup, become a Blackpool player and we are delighted. He brings that extra dimension to our team which is pace and quality," McMahon said.

"We've got him on a free transfer, we've pinched him I think. We were going to do a deal with Murphs and Scott with a few quid last week, but that fell down at the last minute."

The collapse of the original deal left Taylor in limbo after he was told he was surplus to requirements by County boss Carlton Palmer.

"The poor lad has been going up the wall for a week and it's none of his doing, so we've gone back and managed to get something sorted out," McMahon added.

"I've spoken to Scott over the last week or so on and off and he's happy with what I've said to him, he's happy with me as a manager, he's done his homework; he's spoke to a lot of people which he's entitled to.

"He's got good vibes about the club and he's honest enough to say he's come here because he likes the way we play and he wants to play football. He's their leading goalscorer, he's always scored goals wherever he has been and he's got that ingredient of pace."
