Souness fury at Bergkamp elbow
The Dutchman directed an elbow at Swedish defender Nils-Eric Johansson but the incident went unpunished and Bergkamp rubbed salt in Blackburn's wounds by scoring the winning goal in the 3-2 victory.
"If you smack someone in the mouth you have to go. They bring these rules in and some referees adhere to them and some don't," blasted Souness.
"There's no way Bergkamp should have been on the pitch. Normally I would be a bit reticent but I saw it, I saw my player being smacked in the mouth by Bergkamp and Bergkamp scores the winning goal, so I am absolutely delighted about that as you can imagine.
"Mr Wenger didn't think he did anything wrong. Maybe in France, football is different.
"Arsenal are a top team but they don't like it up 'em, and that's something that - if they are going to be a really top team - they are going to have to live with."
Frenchman Wenger defended the former Ajax star, who saw red against Liverpool on Sunday, and revealed his delight at taking all three points.
"I did not see anything wrong with what Bergkamp did," said the Highbury supremo.
"The referee makes his decision. When we have players sent off even if we think they are wrong we accept it. We don't say a word, we just play on and win the games."
Besides the controversial Bergkamp incident The Gunners also had Oleg Luzhny sent off for two bookable offences as their poor disciplinary record continues.
