Arsenal in Trezeguet talks?

DAVID TREZEGUET'S agent has entered into talks with Arsenal to bring the Juventus star to Highbury for a reported £50 million world record transfer fee.

The World Cup and European Championship winning striker has been in fine form for Juventus over the past year, but speculation about a move to England has persisted for the Frenchman.

Now agent Antonio Caliendo is embroiled in talks with Arsenal, and has stated that the only thing missing is for the two clubs to agree a fee for the 24-year-old.

"My meeting and discussion with Arsene Wenger went very well," Caliendo told the News of the World. "David is very excited about the possibility of joining Arsenal.

"He is well aware that other clubs would like to sign him as well - such as Barcelona and Real Madrid - but his preference as a player is to be in the Premier League playing for Arsene Wenger.

"We're happy with Arsenal's offer, now it's up to both clubs to conclude the deal."

Trezeguet was on the scoresheet for Juventus in Saturday's game against Fiorentina - his 14th strike of the season.

The French star has one of the most phenomenal international strike records in the world, although of his 11 goals in 26 caps his most important strike came in the European Championship final against Italy, when he grabbed the golden goal that won the tournament for his nation.

There are suggestions that Arsenal will have to break the world transfer record - currently at around £48 million.

Strangely this fee was also received by Juventus, who sold another French star - Zinedine Zidane to Real Madrid for the phenomenal fee in the summer of 2001.
