Moldovan regrets Sky Blues spell

VIOREL MOLDOVAN has slammed former club Coventry City, but is all the more desperate to prove his worth for Nantes against Premiership side Manchester United in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Moldovan spent six months at Highfield Road, and bemoans a disastrous spell that affected the marksman's confidence ahead of the 1998 World Cup.

"There was not a single day's pleasure at Coventry," said the 29-year-old Romanian. "It was the lowest point of my career.

"But English football may suit me better now. United are world class - and I will put everything into our two matches."

Moldovan scored twice in 14 appearances for The Sky Blues - although he was utilised only as a substitute in half of those games.

Signed for £3.25 million, the marksman was offloaded to Fenerbahce for a £750,00 profit in the summer of 1998.

Meanwhile Coventry are confident that they can halve a 'misleading' £60 million deficit by the end of May.

"[The £60 million debt] did not take into account any debtors," insisted new chairman Mike McGinnity.

"With changes achieved since the last financial year-end, and by working to a new business plan, the directors are confident the debt on May 31 will be around £30 million net.

"We are heading in the right direction and the £30 million does not involve selling first-team players."
