Jesper to escape punishment

EVERTON manager David Moyes will not punish Jesper Blomqvist for his angry reaction to being substituted in the 3-1 win against Bolton.

The Swedish winger was substituted by Moyes - who was keen to tie up the three points - but Blomqvist was furious and the pair exchanged heated words in the dugout.

"I made the change for a tactical reason because I felt there was too much pressure and if we put another forward on and played the same system as Bolton then it would have eased it a little," said Moyes

"I explained that to him and he was right to be unhappy, but wrong to react in the way he did and I let him know that right away."

Blomqvist also confirmed that he apologised to Moyes for his outburst, telling Swedish daily Expressen: "It wasn't really the smartest I have done but we have talked about it and it's all over.

"I have apologized and my apology was accepted."

Blomqvist's team-mate, fellow Swedish midfielder Niclas Alexandersson also played down the clash between Blomqvist and Moyes.

Alexandersson told Sportbladet: "I was on the pitch and didn't see exactly what happened.

"But Jesper had made a very good match and kicked (out) mostly in disappointment.

"It was no big thing afterwards, but it's the papers here (in England) have blown it out of proportion.

"We have been training as usual and there have been no problems whatsoever between Jesper and Moyes."

Alexandersson also believes that Blomqvist has a future at Goodison Park and is happy with the team spirit since Moyes's arrival.

He added: "The atmosphere in the squad is very good. We have won three of the last four matches under Moyes.

"There is a good spirit again. I feel everyone is boosted by the coaching change."
