Vavassori to leave Atalanta
The news has prompted speculation that he could be in line for a move to Serie B club Sampdoria. The Italians are searching for a coach to start in July as they look to build a side to claim a promotion spot next season.
Newly appointed general manager Giuseppe Marotta, due to start in July, has revealed he wanted to appoint Piacenza coach Walter Novellino, however an agreement could not be found.
Marotta is currently working with Vavassori at Atalanta and is likely to try to tempt him into a move to Sampdoria. It has been reported that Vavassori would be happy to follow his friend and take over the role of coach.
Meanwhile it has been reported that Luca Saudati is set to leave the club in favour of Sampdoria. The 24-year-old striker signed for Atalanta last year for £6 million from Milan.
Finally, 36-year-old Sampdoria midfielder Attilio Lombardo is likely to retire after sustaining a bad injury. Lombardo signed for Sampdoria in January from Lazio.
