Cole handed number 19 shirt

COMPARISONS between Paul Gascoigne and Joe Cole look set to continue, after the prodigious West Ham midfielder was handed England squad number 19 - the shirt number that his mercurial predecessor wore at Italia 90.

Cole has been widely compared to Gascoigne - although the latter has emerged as one of the top stars in the season before he burst onto the World scene in Bobby Robson's England side.

David Seaman emerges with the number one shirt, suggesting that he will start the competition as first choice goalkeeper, whilst David Beckham inevitably takes the number seven shirt and Michael Owen his favoured number ten.
