Ferguson is extremely keen to strengthen his defence after the side leaked 45 goals last season, a back-line that ultimately resulted in The Red Devils finishing in their lowest position since the inception of The Premiership.
"It's difficult to sign players with the World Cup on, we knew that before we started, but we are interested in two or three players," confirmed Ferguson.
"Nesta's in the World Cup, but hopefully we'll get something done before the start of next season."
Despite United's interested in the Stadio Olimpico star, Juve are still strong favourites to land Nesta.
If the Old Trafford outfit fail to sign the Italian international, the side are likely to switch their attention to Juventus` French international Lilian Thuram who would cost significantly less.
