Matteo agrees new Leeds deal

LEEDS UNITED have announced Scottish international defender Dominic Matteo has agreed a new five-year contract at Elland Road.

The 28-year-old former Liverpool star played an integral part for United last season, having made 32 appearances for The Whites playing in defence and in midfield.

The news comes as a massive boost for the club, following speculation linking Rio Ferdinand with a big-money move to rivals Manchester United.

The Whites' financial crisis has been well publicised, with a number of players linked with a move away from Elland Road this summer in a bid to reduce the massive debt the club owe.

Matteo joined from Anfield back in the 2000/2001 season for £4.25 million, and has established himself as an outstanding defender culminating in a call-up to the Scottish national team.
