Arteta: Why I chose Rangers

The Spanish midfielder has arrived at Ibrox in a £5.8 million deal and is expected to be an integral member of the Gers' set-up next season.

Arteta spent last season on loan at Paris Saint Germain and his move to Scotland was greeted with fury by the Parc des Princes outfit.

But when the 20-year-old decided it was time to leave Camp Nou permanently, it was Rangers, who he played against in the Uefa Cup last season, who were his preferred choice.

"I had other clubs who wanted me to sign for them," Arteta told the Daily Record. "Also PSG wanted me to stay but there was something about Rangers I could not resist.

"It seemed the most attractive choice from the very first moment. I liked their proposal and the character of the board.

"It took me very little time to make up my mind. I had already got a glimpse of the atmosphere on a visit with PSG to Glasgow and maybe that was what made the decision so easy."

Arteta could be joined at Ibrox by two of his former Barcelona team-mates following an agreement between Rangers and the Catalan giants.

Rangers are believed to have set up a deal with Barcelona whereby they are offered the best of the club's youngsters.

Both Nano and Roberto Trashorras have been linked with a move to Ibrox and Arteta would be delighted if his compatriots joined him in Glasgow.

He added: "I would love it if they came. They are both great players."
